SUZUKI | Book 1 Teacher Training with Allen Lieb
These Suzuki Book 1 teacher training sessions will take place from the 12th - 15th of February 2010 and alternatively from the 26th - 29th of March 2010 at UMass Amherst and Northampton Community Music Center respectively. There is a fee*, but the course is open to the public.

The orchestra will take a road trip this spring semester to put on concerts for students in New Jersey on Friday 5 February 2010.

The graduate string quartet at UMass Amherst with members Ben Van Vliet, Alicia Casey, Hannah Van der Swaagh, and Nicole Fizznoglia are currently in residence at the Williston Northampton School.

As an ongoing collaboration between living composers and the violin studio at UMass, we so far have commissioned and performed twelve duos written especially for our studio and expect to continue to add to the repertoire in the years to come.

Founded in 2007 by current and former UMass Amherst string students, Red Oak Strings is a Pioneer Valley week-long summer program that "seeks to enrich the lives of young string players through small ensemble playing," and to build "fundamental musicianship skills."

OUTREACH | Opus One & Project STEP
Opus One performed their concert repertoire in Boston on Sunday 8 November 2009 in Higginson Hall at Symphony Hall while faculty gave masterclasses. This occasion marked Opus One's first collaboration with Project STEP.
OUTREACH | String Quartet
On Thursday 5 November 2009, a UMass Amherst string quartet with members Michelle Painter, Peace Twesigye, Mingie Kim, and Keith Ukrisna performed Shostakovich String Quartet No. 7 for the students at Frontier Regional High School in South Deerfield, MA.

HIGHLIGHT | 5th Annual String Day
On Sunday 1 November 2009, members of all the string studios helped out with the fifth annual String Day event in the Pioneer Valley, where local high school students engaged in a full and productive day's worth of string activities at UMass Amherst.
